Publications: Research
The Research panel provides access to scientific publications, including peer-reviewed articles, conference proceedings, and books, within your search domain, guided by selected metrics. Enables the analysis of global scientific activity, advancements, and trends across various fields of innovation and technology.
Research publications are updated daily. For Expert searches, we cover a period of up to 10 years, and for Smart searches, up to 5 years. Starting with the most recent patents, we continue going back year by year until we gather enough relevant results, offering up to 500 items for your search.

Trend charts
In addition to the table, the Research panel includes a trend chart for your Expert searches, allowing you to track how publication activity has evolved over time.
The Research trend chart displays publication activity for the last 10 years, breaking down the number of relevant articles published each year.
SCOUT provides you with absolute, normalized, and extrapolated counts. Use the dropdown at the top of the Trends chart to select your preferred count type.
- Absolute counts: Estimation of raw counts of relevant publications published each year, providing a direct measure of activity.
- Normalized counts: The number of relevant scientific publications adjusted relative to the total publication volume in MAPEGY's Innovation Graph, helping reduce bias and account for fluctuations in global activity.
In green, you can see extrapolated counts: A projection of future trends in publication activity, based on statistical regression.
Some research publications do not include a specific day or month in their publication dates.
In such cases, we assign a default date—typically the start of the year or month (e.g., '2019' becomes '2019-01-01')—for aggregation purposes.
As a result, you may notice slight spikes at the beginning of a year or month when using finer time resolutions in trend charts.
To address this, we recommend either switching to a yearly resolution or enabling the 'Normalized Counts' option.
Normalization adjusts publication counts relative to the total number of publications within the selected timeframe, helping you identify clearer and more consistent trends.
Filter by date
You can utilize the trend charts to filter by date:
- Hover over any bar to see the number of publications for that year.
- Click on a bar to set it as the start date of your filter. Click on another bar to set it as the end date, completing your selected time frame. The publications will then be filtered to match the chosen date range.
Filtering by date will load a new set of 500 results.
Summarize results with AI
You can also summarize your research results with the AI-powered summarization feature, designed to quickly highlight the most critical aspects of your search. This feature helps you identify the top five innovation categories, making it easier to focus on what matters most.
This smart summarization extracts the key innovation-related points from research titles. Summarizations are tailored to your applied filters, ensuring relevance to your specific focus areas.
Just click on the magic wand at the top of the panel, a popup will appear displaying the summarized results with:
- Related Articles linked to your data table where matches exist.
- Copy Functionality for effortless integration into projects.
For SCOUT to provide an AI summary, your search must return at least 25 research publications. If fewer, the summary button will not appear
